I have a similar recipe and I like to add finely chopped crystallized ginger for extra bite.  --- beth

maya's mixer

4 ½ cups flour
4 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups butter or margarine
2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
½ cup molasses

¾ cup coarse or granulated sugar for rolling in.

In a mixing bowl stir the dry ingredients together. Set aside.

Beat together the butter and sugar. Mix until combined. Beat in eggs and molasses. Add the flour mixture. Mix until blended.

Shape into balls. Roll in coarse or regular sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes (if small). Cool on pan for a bit. Transfer to wire rack to cool.

They freeze great. Sometimes I put the dough in the fridge to cool before I make them.
