Summer Calling

Saturday was such a gorgeous day, Tony and I walked along the risen and swollen river, and decided to enforce outdoorsy-ness for the kids… so we gathered skeptical children and a after a stop at Wal-Mart went driving out along the shore… we were in search of future swimming holes.. we meandered along the shore, turning off side roads and we discovered two awesome and quiet beaches.. accompanied by a variety of music, (including Mary Barrett and Calvary Merritt Island Worship), and by the gentle clicking of Katherine’s Rubik cubing.

This photo caught my fancy… as we preparing to leave, she was checking to see if the porch light was turned off… I think it is her profile that makes the photo special for me
Emily is growing up…
on the way back we stopped at a fish/ gift shop… we bought some of the worst butter tarts I have ever tasted and an unusual treat, "Indian Candy." Indian Candy is salmon smoked with maple syrup and Thai seasoning… very delicious.
Sunday a friend of Katherine’s met us at church… and then came home with us for a pizza lunch. He will be attending University of Waterloo (Tony’s alma mater) in the fall, and is in the Concert Band at Churchill. He has an engaging sense of humor, but initiated some serious conversation, which we enjoyed.
After he left, Tony set about to summer-ready the bicycles. (I slept and slept, I cannot remember such an awesome nap.) Katherine, Emily and Hannah were delighted with the bikes, and went on a long bike ride. I read Vanishing Acts.
And I have been wanting to scrap this photo for a long time… I snatched it off Angie’s blog…

Moi -- like that one??
Okay, so you made me cry. What else is new?!?!? This is gorgeous, my friend!
Your walk yesterday sounded wonderful. We’re having to stay indoors these days — it’s already 92 degrees, and it’s not quite the hottest part of the afternoon.
Oh well. . . Fall will be here soon enough! : ) (only kidding)
Love to all your 45 kids! I love them so. . .and their parents, too!

For a minute there, I thought I hadn’t left a comment. But that was me, up there. I remember this. It was such a precious gift.

I miss you, sweet friend.
