Besides my mouth and throat problems… My appetite has been next to nil these days. I eat custard (thank you, Laurel for the delivery of your delicious custard yesterday) We have tons of great food in the house… and I did eat all of Jo-Anne’s garden vegetable soup (after we whirl it in the blender) but for the most part, I don’t want to eat much. Nothing interests me. (for instance i can eat ice cream easily, but i am not interested enough to actually ask for it) George was sure he could tempt me with something, and he brought me wonton soup last night. That was delicious… I only “ate†the broth with the green onion bits in it… Tony enjoyed the sliced pork and wontons.
My friend, Peggy offered to send me some pastelitos… we know my appetite is gone when that doesn’t tempt me. although it brought back delicious memories of cafe con leche and a guava pastelito… puff pastry with guava filling and that coarse sugar… or cuban toast and cuban coffee… cuban bread toasted with melted margarine… you cannot imagine how could such a simple treat can be so satisfying.
I did try to eat a a bit of clementine orange, but the acidic juice burned too much… i still have open spots i guess from the biopsy.
Mary and I have been watching alot of Food network lately and I get very interested in various dishes, Ricardo’s Choucroute, believe it or not… sauerkraut dishes don’t usually inspire me… but I found myself actually wanting to try this someday…maybe it is his accent, certainly not his ridiculous 70’s polyester shirts. Mary and I did make this…
carrot preserves… very good… she brought the carrots and cutting boards to my bedside table where we peeled and chopped together… I could only have one tiny slice of bread with it… but it was oh so good.. we gave some to Carson and Chip yesterday… hmmmm, they were not impressed… what’s in it? Carson asked… Mary answered, sugar, lots of sugar… obviously not enough sugar… i put a tiny piece in Chip’s mouth, and some how he managed to not even taste it.. he let it fall out of his mouth…
we (ie Mary) roasted garlic heads to make Michael Smith’s Garlic Bread and she made homemade croutons for a chockfull of vegetable salad, none of which I ate… too hard on my throat and mouth…
I have been (with Mary’s help) attacking paperwork, business letters, filing, trying to make sure there is order in some of our affairs… and we have a little left of that today, as well as Mary dying my hair… I have the bone scan at 3:30 (the injection) and 6PM (the scan itself.)
Someone will leave an update about the scan … and I leave my prayers for all of you dear ones who have been loving me and mine so much these days, thank you… you are appreciated more than you will know

This does my heart good — not just getting an update (and recipe inspiration) — but seeing how you and your girl are doing stuff together. I’ll be watching for updates later today. . . and praying all the while.

All this talk about making food, talking about food is making me hungry! The carrot preserves look INCREDIBLE! Did you take that picture too? It is worthy of Martha Stewart. Even when you don’t feel well, your ambition and ability to DO things is beyond me! I’m praying that today goes well. Will be looking for an update.
