I’m Baaackk!!!
Friends, Jesus, School May 20th, 2008
We got in at around 5:30 yesterday morning…there were lots of suggestions to get the dreaded Stage Band practice over with at that point (we have practice this morning…brutal)…I believe that we must have stumbled off the bus and looked rather dreary…but that it for the parents to tell.
Anyway…Ottawa was amazing! It was such a wonderful experience and I’m so thankful that I had it. Some of the trip highlights include:
Betting on Wal-Mart: I bet Allie 5 cents that there was no Wal-Mart in North Bay…there was…she is 5 cents richer.
Playing Wild-Wild-West on the bus: I played it with people outside of my regular circle…we got so intense I actually have a tiny bruise on my leg…and Sarah taught it to me when I first met her but I thought no one else knew how to play.
Showering in the hotel: 20+ hours of no running water and you’d find that a highlight too.
National Art Gallery: Sarah and I running loose with all the "precious"-deemed art in Canada. Good times.
Rhythm Workshop: I learned a lot and finally felt like I belonged in the Rhythm section. I can’t wait to try out my new hand positions this morning at practice…
Hooky on Parliament Hill: My group of four missed a performance we were scheduled to attend…so we walked over to Parliament Hill and looked at the buildings…we couldn’t actually go in but it was still really exciting. Now I’ve been to both my capitols.
Quebec: We had two hours of free time and Quebec is only a bridge away. I walked it…scary. My legs were beat but it was extremely fun.
Yamaha Japan Band: They were the best symphonic band I’ve ever seen and they were Japanese and cute and they played Hockey Night in Canada for us. (Right before another band played Oh Canada and everyone stood up and sang along. I turned around and looked up at the ampitheatre filled with people singing the same song…it was an intense moment and I was happy for all my patriotic-in-the-closet friends because it was also a beautiful moment.)
Performance Day: Well we got Gold…how is that not a highlight…considering that’s why we went…
Bus Ride Back: Parts stunk…but Lorraine and I got to witness to this boy for about an hour and I think we did a good job (I was totally freaked the entire time though) please pray for this boy Eugene. Plus I learned how to solve a Rubik’s Cube. Well…almost.
But it’s back to the school game for now…
