A "walkabout" to Grand Marais and back
July 4, 2006

Our first stop was Thunder Oak Cheese Farm, where this little goat welcomed us...

Some of us, feeling brave, fed him...

before heading into the store to see all these cheeses...

and so many dutch and northern european goodies, it was like meeting old friends

and a final farewell to the goat,

before heading off to Little Trout Bay

back in the car, such a pleasant drive, sunny, good music and plenty of snacks

almost to the border

At a Minnesota State Park, Emily practiced skipping rocks

many culverts to explore

Emily learned from the master stone skipper

In Grand Marais, we stopped in a shop called "Beth's Fine Gifts"

And how cool is this... an old fashioned small town parade

we stood on the sidewalk and got to watch the whole thing

TWICE!!!!

The ten floats went around the block two times...

after the parade we walked to the shore...

Grand Marais is gorgeous

By the harbor, we ate dinner across from here

Fresh trout, grilled veggie wrap, walleye plank, ... scrumptious... all while looking out on the harbor and reading about Lake Superior shipwrecks

On the right side of the harbor....

We snapped photos of craft ideas for Beth

The girls noticed the little bears atop the poles byt the marina

At dusk, at water's edge just before the fireworks.
